WoF Class - Summoner
Info:As the name suggests, a Summoner’s primary special skill is to summon. Mainly they summon other creatures to assist in battle or perform tasks that they cannot. However it is not so simple as just deciding to summon. A creature which is summoned possesses it’s own will and will do what they wish while summoned. As such, Summoners will form contracts with those that are intelligent and sapient, dictating the conditions by which the other being may be summoned. For some the conditions are simple, others demand more complex methods of summoning or more ‘important’ reasons.A summon can be just about anything or anyone. From a titanic god like being, to a person you might pass on the street, to a swarm of confused bees. They can be living/physical, or ethereal/spiritual in nature. A summoner is also able to summon an eidolon, or internal avatar of a person, which is often far more powerful than the individual it’s from; said individual is often unaware of this, however in this case a contract or agreement is an absolute requirement and they can only be summoned with the second and third methods and only for a short time. (see below)Summoners aren’t limited simply to summoning other creatures however; Summoners can ‘blink’ themselves, individuals, and even objects, to different locations. A fully trained summoner or a powerful novice can even transport themselves or others to different dimensions, rather than only momentary summons. When a summoner is calling for a creature there are one of three ways they may invoke it. The first is to simply call for them, summons called this way are vulnerable and it is not commonly used, as the general mind set is that calling something to be injured on your behalf is wrong. The second method involves the summon being invulnerable, the summoner taking on any injuries for them. This method is the most common, and the summon can be sustained for a long or short period of time. The third method is normally used only for the most powerful of summons. The summoned creature gains invulnerability and the summoner does not take injuries on their behalf, however the summoner is rendered immobile and virtually helpless as all their power is dedicated to the sustaining of the summon and maintaining it’s invulnerability. While summoning, markings will appear on the body of the summoner, often mimicking the style of their circles, the markings are faintly luminous, but not enough to be seen through any clothing that isn’t a mesh or very thin. The mentality needed to perform their skills and techniques leaves nearly all summoners with a unique outlook on the world, such as particular views on death and the like, even able to see things that others cannot. Some choose to become Summoners based on having this ability or mindset from the start.Summoners do possess some healing skills, though not as powerful as a Healer. However they are the only ones who are able to heal injuries of the ‘soul’ and mind, and are also the only ones who can break things like curses, or freeing souls bound or entrapped.'You need not fear, though we may be worlds apart or side by side, you are not alone, I can see you.'Weapons:Summoners can wield a wide variety of weapons, though they tend to fair on the light side, short swords, daggers, staves, spears, whips, chains, gauntlets, etc. Some prefer to hide their weapons out of sight, wishing to instill a more calm and peaceful image of themselves. It is also helpful as Summoners do not normally were heavy armor, or any armor at all, preferring to be unreachable instead. Their clothing tends to follow a more tribal, ‘modern shaman’, or distressed theme, and will usually be adorned with items of significance, either those needed to summon a picky individual, or items of personal value. They may also be items gathered from previous jobs or significant events, many Summoners like to collect them as ‘souvenirs’ or ‘keepsakes’.

A summon can be just about anything or anyone. From a titanic god like being, to a person you might pass on the street, to a swarm of confused bees. Summoners aren’t limited simply to summoning other creatures however; Summoners can ‘blink’ themselves, individuals, and even objects, to different locations.

'You need not fear, though we may be worlds apart or side by side, you are not alone, I can see you.'

Weapons:

Summoners can wield a wide variety of weapons, though they tend to fair on the light side, short swords, daggers, staves, spears, whips, chains, gauntlets, etc. Some prefer to hide their weapons out of sight, wishing to instill a more calm and peaceful image of themselves. WoF - Class - Beast Master

Info:

Despite the name, Beast Masters do not dominate members of the animal kingdom. Rather their main aim is to draw inspiration and work in tandem with various kinds of fauna. The primary point in their discipline is understanding how and why creatures do what they do, humanoids and other sentient included. They appear to take a ‘primitive’ almost base approach to things, but are often far more calculating then they appear, and most seem to have a very optimistic out look and are at ease with the seeming indifference of nature.

Their primary skill is their ability to ‘commune’ with the various fauna they may encounter, asking for assistance or even just information. This makes them excellent survivalists. They use this skill in combat as well, from calming an enraged animal, to asking for help in a fight, to convincing a trained attack animal to turn on it’s trainer. Woe be it to the wicked overlord who thought he was safe behind his dogs.

In addition Beast Masters can offer a temporary ‘boost’ to an allied creature, from enhancing natural abilities, to granting them some of their own powers, to even momentarily moving them back or forward along the evolutionary chain. They can also boot themselves and take on the traits of other animals, from dense protective hide, to horns and claws, to the titanic weight of a gigantic creature.

As with all of their kind, Beast Masters have a base skill in elemental kinisis, their attacks draw inspiration from the animal kingdom, taking the form of various creatures; for example, it would not be whole unexpected to be attacked by phantom serpents, or bunnies made of fire. 'Nature is a simple and complex thing, it is so much larger than us all, and so small it is bound to every cell in our bodies, it cares nothing for your dreams and ambitions, I challenge you to defy it.'

Weapons:
Much like their armor a Beast Master’s weapon is generally ‘basic’ in nature, and is usually made from things like leather and bone, in addition to metal. A favorite seems to be the spear or pole-arm, halberds and axes not far behind. daggers and short swords are also common, and though not seen as often, whips as well. A Beast Master’s weapon generally is a multipurpose one, serving them not only in a fight, but also as tools in their daily lives.

WoF - ”Alien”

Another prompt from the ‘beyond the playlist’ podcast Artist’s Round Table, for the prompt “Alien”Feels good to draw my little Soldiers after so long. I’m very pleased with how it came out. I chose them for this not just because they are technically aliens, but for the alternate meaning. It’s possible to feel alienated even amongst your own kind, friends, famil, it’s possible to feel alone and outside even when surrounded by those who love you most. Sometimes our own perceived failings our flaws, can get the better of us and drag us so far from what should make us happy, and sometimes, regrettably, we give up. And when we do, those imaginary evils are no longer so imaginary, and our inner ‘monsters’ come out. Then, we really are aliens. From right to left, row one to row two: Famine, Envy, Captivity, Slaughter, Extinction, Rot & Decay, Ruin, AfflictionAll characters and concepts © Alexandra Schoell, June 2014

The Dragon
Originally done as a prompt for the “Artist’s Round Table” episode of the “Beyond the Playlist” podcast (Set to Air 6/29/2014)I’m rather pleased with this one, not only is it the first 100% digital piece I’ve done, it’s also the first with no line art. However I’m most pleased that it made a sweet little girl smile, I gave her father (the host) a copy, and now she’ll have it as a poster on her wall. 'The Dragon' © Alexandra Schoell, 2014

Max from the Mass Effect fan-film Manufactured Alliances. He is a self proclaimed ‘playboy’ with a 0% success rate, he often says things he thinks are funny but no one else does, and has a tendency to lose his temper and open mouth insert foot.Recently joined the team as a storyboarder/concept artist, decided I’d have a bit of fun doodling some of the characters.Mass Effect © Bioware, EAManufactured Alliances, Max © Peter Bedding www.youtube.com/user/pbbro1997

WoF - Class - WeaponsMaster

Doing a nice brand new series of the ‘Word is on Fire’ combat classes. All new and improved and bright and shiny.
Info
The name WeaponsMaster seems to be fairly straight forward, and in part it is. The majority of their training involves learning to wield any weapon placed in their hands. Which they do so with exemplary skill. However this is not the limit of their abilities. WeaponsMasters can imbue their weapons with various enhancements, should they wish to, generally along the lines of giving them elemental characteristics, such as becoming searingly hot or electrified.
What sets them apart however are their weapons themselves. As with the other classes their weapons are bound to them by default, however this class takes it one step further. For them the weapon is an extension of oneself, and to wield it is not simply a series of motions, hacks and slashes, but a craft, and art form; a thing that can be just as beautiful as deadly, bring as much help as harm. All dependent on the wielder’s intent.
The greatest skill of a WeaponsMaster is tied to their names. They are not merely versed in using any melee weapon, they are able to adapt the weapons themselves. While their weapons do come in a default appearance, a WeaponsMaster is able to coax them to shed that form and take on a new one. The type, complexity, and general appearance of the weapon is entirely dependent on the WeaponsMaster’s ability and promise. ‘My weapon is but and extension of myself, shifting, adapting, another limb by which I may change the world.’

Weapons
There is no limit to what sort of weapon a WeaponsMaster can wield, they do however stick to melee for practical reasons, as turning their weapon into a projectile weapon would provide them with no ammunition and serve only as an impractical bludgeoning weapon.
When not in use their weapons are a seemingly unassuming item, stored often as a trinket or piece of jewelry. When in use they will first appear as their default form, after which they are set to become anything the WeaponsMaster requires.
